Greetings to all of you. I just joined the board because I have acquired a nice 1976 RE5 from a local collector.
I am a motorcycle salesman by trade and love to talk about bikes. I was talking to a customer who said he had an RE5. I said that the bike had always interested me but I had never taken one for a ride. He showed up one day with his blue '75 and said, "have at it". I said, "you don't have to ask twice". It was like no other bike I had experienced. No vibration to speak of, peppy and a nice handler. So unique. Just weird enough to be cool. These days they are, as you all know, getting scarce. I am especially glad to find a community of riders. I feel like I can ride it knowing that if something breaks, I have a the support to deal with a problem. After all, old bikes are old bikes no matter how many new parts you hang on them.
I would be interested in feedback on the electronic ignition. Seems like that would be a no brainer.
Thanks all and happy rotating! -Scott

Welcome and glad to have you aboard.

My sentiments exactly. Tim

Member JESS at Rotary Recycle developed an electronic ignition for the bike and sold quite a few. It operated on the A point system only, got rid of the CDI and points, easy install designed for the non-mechanical and from what I've heard, bullet proof and totally reliable (your A model only has the A point system and it's all that's needed on any of the two models).
There would be a few posts on electronic ignition buried in the pages.
