Hello Guys,
Just want to say hello as a new forum member. My name is Tom, 53 years old, and living in the south-east part (Boxmeer area) of The Netherlands. Been riding bikes all my live but once again want something different now. And since I have been fascinated by rotary engines I am looking into a RE5. If something good comes along I sure am interested in buying one. In the mean time I will be looking and reading.
Best regards ... Tom

Buy the best you can afford. You will come out ahead in the long run. Parts are so expensive and hard to come by that restoring one costs significantly more than buying one done.
Just my 2 cents.

Hi Tom,
Welcome to this forum! We have a few things in common: our age, our love for bikes, our mother language and perhaps also our employer since you are stating living in Boxmeer area? I work for MSD Belgium ;-)
And Jess is right: buy the best you can get or be prepared to invest a lot of money.....
Cheers,
Michel

And by the best I do not mean the shiniest....These bikes are worth a fair bit of money in Europe nowadays and that also attracts people who are not completely honest.
For example: there is a very nice looking red RE5 for sale in Belgium. The current owner bought it about a year ago from the first (from new) owner with about 43.000 km on the ODO. After a few cosmetic upgrades the bike is now for sale for a lot more then a year ago BUT magically with only 15.000 km on the ODO....
To make long story short: be sure to get the history on the bike and get someone knowledgeable to have a look at the bike you prefer before you buy it!
Cheers,
Michel

Welcome, and a happy normal New Year. I wish I had visited this forum before taking on one of these rotary powered bikes. Advice is normally excellent, please refer to above. Find one that you can ride away on, and spotless, they are out there, just not in my garage.
