My bike:
4/75 build 14962 Frame 140923 Engine
I'm assuming it is a reconfigured bike as it has the M wiring harness modified and both sets of points
Gas cap has the arrow
Carb does not have the Hex bolt for filter access
Soft oil cooler lines

Thanks for that MULTISTRADA1. That's unusual. The "arrow" gas cap was normally gone long before that frame number and the carb, I would have guessed, would be the later version. My bikes are more than a thousand numbers earlier and have the flat cap along with the Hex bolt carb.

The Gas Caps
When I worked at the dealership in the 70s I remember seeing the arrow/bump cap on a GT185. The link below to the parts page shows this cap and two others for the GT185. The list shows that it was a one year design for 1974. I have seen these caps on e-bay new and used with the part number 44210-36200. The -36___ in the part number suffix indicates that it originated for the GT185 model just as -37___ indicates RE5. I think Suzuki was just dumping the obsolete cap in a place where it would not be noticed under the RE fuel tank lid. I am sure if there were problems with it not tightening to the correct location there would have been customer complaints for the 185, not to mention the heated arguments as to which way it went on. I have Frame numbers 11115 and 11121 both came with the bump cap. I can also confirm frame 11174 came with the bump cap. Frame # 11424 did not. Replacement part 44200-23810 is still available I think, and matches my original cap from #11424. I think it may have happened with owners of multiple RE's to have switch some parts around to keep what they liked on the favorite bike in the last 4 decades, maybe ?

Red turn signal Lens
Some early REs had red rear turn signal lenses. Frame #11115 and 11121 came with red lenses. I can also confirm that #11174 came with amber lenses on all four corners. I don't know if the red was only in the U.S. or not. I also have frame # 11157 which I am uncertain what it came with as it came from another enthusiast and was partially disassembled when I bought it as a parts bike. Was said to not have had the red lenses so probably not. May have had the bumped gas cap, but I didn't get it. My restored RE pictured #11424 has red lenses now because I found four N.O.S. red lenses in a shop in Montana. ( $8 each was the best find of the restoration ) Some parts books don't show the red lens part number, but they are shown in this link to Partzilla parts list item #8 (the second #8 )
Just more odd/weird stuff from an RE enthusiast.

Thanks Brian. In the Australian case, I can be sure no red lenses made it here on originally delivered bikes. Our road authorities mandate orange for the turn signals and they're a pack of Nazis when it comes to design rules (I have three modified engineered vehicles so AMHIK "ask me how I know" )

The calipers with the anti rotation pin for the banjo fitting are on Frame 11174 and new style calipers on frame 11424. Also the pinned calipers appear to always have knurled pattern on the bolts and latter version has smooth bolt head O.D.
