So I finally found me another tank flap. Somebody had cut a big hole in the original, to put a clock in it - very 70's. The replacement flap has a small decal which reads "Check engine oil level before driving". Its very faded.
I am going to repaint the replacement flap at some stage and wonder what the Decal should be. Was there one in particular or did it vary depending on the year etc. Here is a pic of the flap

Sticker placement was not consistent from one bike to the next...
What you have is correct. One with no sticker would also be correct.

“Check engine oil level before driving “was factory also “use low lead or unleaded fuel” Decal was shown on the top of edge if flap. Uk dealers fitted a Large Silver Recommendation sticker detailing GTX oils used throughout the bike. These are clearly shown in some early road test of the time. I have some repro decals if required. Not sure what was fitted to other countries bikes. Rog

Does anybody have or know of a rubber/plastic gasket/grommet that goes under the lock between it and the tank flap ? RE5 dimensions 1.140 (29mm) O.D. X .805 (20.5mm) Minor I.D. .940 (24mm) major I.D. X .050 (1.25m ) thick. Thanks for the suggestion Tim ( Below) I added to this post after it was initially posted. The ford one looks identical but is about an 1/8 inch to large.

Lock cylinders from General Motors cars from the 1960 s era has similar size locks. I would check body shops and GM dealers
and Ford dealers for something similar. Others may help.
Ref: 18 44280-37010 LOCK ASSY, FRONT COVER | M,A Price: $41.48
A little steep just to get the seal.
