I need a new battery for the RE5 and there are a number of threads here that had recommended the Motobatt but they are all a few years old. The internet reviews of this battery generally seem hit or miss, some people love it and others complain that it died in 6 months. What kind of life are you all getting from your Motobatt batteries?
I don't expect that whatever battery I go with will last 10 years or anything, but I also don't want to replace it next year. thanks!

I have two but can only vote once. One is in the RE5 and 4 years old, still okay, the other is approaching 6 years and also still starting my GSX1100.
Both are on trickle chargers whenever they're parked.
I don't recall the brand but my last AGM RE5 battery lasted 10 years. So the two Motobatt's above are so far, nothing special, but good enough.
PS I did buy a new Dekka for an RE5 in storage. It was on trickle charge for around a year then started the bike no problems etc when we were selling it. However I believe after a couple of months sitting in the bike as it sailed to the UK it was D.O.A. and had to be replaced. AGM's should fare much better than that.

I have one for my GT750 dragbike. I bought it over 5 years ago. It is still going strong. Keep in mind that the dragbike doesn't have any charging system in it so it just runs directly off of the battery. Not a lot of use on the battery but to date it has held up very well.

I've had 3 motobatts and they all failed at 13 months or so. Trickle charged, with different chargers. I now buy el cheapo AGM ones off ebay which so far have been great.

I have 10 Motobatts in all of my Re5 . 8 of them have lasted 5 plus years and still going. 2 of them have gone bad at about 3 years old. I keep all my bikes in my collection on battery tender brand battery tenders . I also have 8 other motorcycles with motobatt batteries in them and they have all lasted longer then expected . I have to say I like them and don’t have to worry about acid rust from the battery’s .

I have used and fail 2 Glass mat batteries on 2 separate bikes and both failed. One was at a show I road to in the summer. I pushed the button to go home and it started and then stopped and totally dead as iff a fuse blew. I previously had a Lucas battery fail in the work shop and put that down to its age. This Mobatt was 3 months old. On contacting the supplier and some checks on the bikes I found out that the Overcharging issue that is common on the RE5 that melts wires and boils the Acid to scar the exhaust from overflow pipe. This overcharging ( Voltage ) shorts out the AGM batteries. On testing my bike I found 18v output @ 3500 rpm. My thought are to use a modern Regulator/rectifier before installing a AGM battery.

I guess it's still somewhat hit and miss with this battery, some have great luck and get many years while others don't. I was hoping everybody would say it's great or it's horrible to make an easy decision

Very useful observations. I suspect the internal battery resistance differences of the batteries affects the Suzuki mechanical regulator compared to a modern electronic regulator. I am also sure that high voltage will greatly shorten life of the CDI box! Tim

CDI unit failure! The same bike with 18v test output had a CDI unit fail about 1000 miles previously. Your comment would make sense. Thanks Tim BEST Rog

That was one of the first things I checked on my bike but it was charging at 14.5v max... Maybe I just had bad luck with the batteries.

Well after a couple months of holidays and family stuff I finally went out and just bought a battery. I wanted AGM because I didn't want to risk any more damage as my last lead acid leaked and the vent tube popped off. My local battery store sold Xtreme battery so that's what I went with otherwise I may have gone more months without getting something. Now to fix the torn fuel line and hopefully get out and ride again.
