Exhaust Pipes: Referring to this thread: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/2295/re5-exhaust-gas-cooling-portsAs usual this forum contains an abundance of information. Seeing the pipes cut into pieces was very helpful. My exhausts are quite rusty - especially at the rear and top portion. The chrome is bubbly and kind of ugly. Although I'm not ready to do anything with engine at this time, I wondered if anyone has bothered with plating in the USA recently and what they found. I found this place in FL: spacecoast-plating.com/ and will likely reach out to them to learn cost estimates. I'm also thinking of using muriatic acid to remove the existing chrome plating and then coating with Cerakote as I did on my Goldwing's headers. Of course I will lose the "chrome" look and not sure if I really want to do that. I may consider using electrolysis just to get rid of the internal rust - er...unless that's all that is holding them together! I can easily make a long tank of sorts with a wooden frame and thick plastic liner. Here are some threads I found: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/2087/pipe-chroming re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/2184/chromingAs far as other parts, I'm experimenting with Eastwood's Extreme Chrome powder and having decent results. I'll post some parts later on that I powder coated with their chrome. I'll keep farming Internet, I haven't reached the end yet, so plenty of time....

Here is my first experiment with Eastwood's "HOTCOAT POWDER COAT EXTREME CHROME BONDED POWDER" and topcoat with "HOTCOAT POWDER COAT SUPER-GLOSS CLEAR". The first to say what these parts are wins new piston rings for the RE5!

Nice looking chain adjusters

RE5 piston rings for Jess then.
I'd like to know how they stand up to the pressures exerted on them. Does the coating start to chip or abrade after use? Please give us some feedback down the track.

...and the winner is...Jess for correctly identifying the chain adjusters!
Please allow up to 3 weeks for the piston rings to arrive from Suzuki, Japan!
Longevity: So far my experience with powder is that it's quite flexible unless hit with a sharp object. Then the material may chip. I'm not sure exactly what I'll powder next on the RE5 but I'll certainly keep ya'll informed.
I have some crash bars for the GL1000 I intend to chrome powder however, so you all will see those. The powder starts out grey and then flows to the chrome effect - very cool. The clear powder looks like baking soda then flows to clear.

Question for you all: Below is a pic of my rectifier after cleaning and painting. Notice it is stacked as 3. I've looked at a lot of parts on ebay and such, but the ones I've seen aren't stacked like this. Do you think it's stock? Was there a change at some point in the A model? Even the Parts manual indicates something different:

Looks good to me. This is the latest rectifier installed/available as far as I know.

I think the quality of the Rectifier grounding is very important. This is composed of the cleanliness of the rectifier mount to the battery holder and the holder to the frame mounts. Suzuki seams to have pinched a penny in this area as the connector used has space for a ground wire, but they chose to rely an the mounting areas I mentioned that are susceptible to corrosion. There are other items on the RE that I think should have had ground wires run to them. For example the Ignition Coil, Horn button is grounded though the handle bars and steering bearings. A poor ground at the rectifier I believe will cause an overheating issue with 3 of the 6 diodes in the rectifier. Brian

Thank you - I appreciate the quick feedback!
Brian, I wondered about grounding. So thank you for that.
My GL1000 needed extra grounding for similar reasons and in fact, there's a procedure Randakk describes to add it. The GL has a tendency to burn up the 3 alternator connector wires due to corroded/improper connections. Of course, parts are a bit more available for the GL's eh?!
More pics coming as the Cerakote cures!

Here is something I found that drove me nuts. I knew that it wasn't right. If you look at the first picture, you see the Parts Manual (Page 62-1) showing part 15 identified as "Retainer, bearing" in a particular order with the wheel bearing. This is not correct. The picture indicates that it is outside of the bearing and next to the hub spacer. The next picture is from the Service Manual (Page 122) which shows the proper placement of the same part, part 7 identified as "Spacer". The Service Manual properly indicates that the part 7 "spacer" is inside the hub and behind the bearing. I know - I'm OC. THIS IS INCORRECT - Page 62-1 Parts ManualTHIS IS CORRECT - Page 122 Service Manual

Keep going. There are more errors. Do enough and I'll make a thread of corrections.

Oh Man!
A Challenge!
I accept - Since I have the entire thing (except engine thus far) all in pieces, this should be interesting!
I'm working on main frame assy - but work keeps getting in the way.
Merry Christmas all and to all a great motorcycle!

Front Brake Hoses:
OK I've searched the forum and found a couple of things but I'm not sure.
As we know the RE5 HAS 3-piece hoses with the top being number 1, the middle 2, and the very bottom 3.
In the parts drawing part 11 and 12 represent the Right (11) and the Left (12) middle hoses. They are different lengths, and I would assume that the longer would accommodate for both. Since I can't find these hoses, I was hoping you all could tell me what is currently being substituted.
The part 59240-31012 is for the GT750 (same on both sides) but I've no idea how long it is. Would this be the correct part to get??
Thanks ya'll
