After studying parts of the "Complete Stripdown- Photographic record" thread I have found that there are a couple of electrical brackets missing. Of course I did not know this whilst taking the bike apart. From the pictures of the strip down thread
This one sits above the battery I believe And this one above the engine
I have spent a while looking for their p/n but have not found them on any of the diagrams.... Does anybody know if they are listed with a p/n.... Not that there is much chance of getting them. It looks like they have been lost during a previous rebuild of this bike. It would be good to put them back..... but its not going to stop a re-build - So its not a panic, more a fret. a minor one.

The rectifier connector bracket and the other connector brackets were just eliminated in the A model conversions. Thanks for the pics. Tim
I do believe they are listed for M models possibly under frame attachments.

I did check on the "M" model pages. The Battery, Electrical, Fame, Generator and Wiring Harness pages. And a few others. It was when I was looking at the "Stripdown" thread that I noticed them. The wiring on my bike has been shoved back on the bike without much thought... So I was looking to see how it should be. Ta Nairb

My personal M model was a completely unmolested bike that I've owned virtually from new. It has none of those brackets. It's frame number is one of the last before the records show only black A models.
The bike in the stripdown pics is an earlier M with solid oil cooler lines. Either cost saving strategies or Suzuki coming to their senses. I've heard from guys in the Suzuki racing circles of the '70's that Suzuki's solution to everything was "add another bracket".

The brackets were used on early M bikes.
How many? Or what was the cutoff? Nobody knows... There are no records.
I have them in stock if someone MUST have them. The issue in my mind is.... Who cares?
Just my two cents...
Your mileage may vary...
Best,

Thanks for the input to this. Being a latter "M" model I bet it left the factory withOUT any of those brackets being fitted. I wonder how much that saved suzuki in costs. Its good to find out why bits ae missing or not tho.

I noticed late production models had revised passenger foot pegs, I figured at the time it was a cost cutting measure. In addition, my pet peeve is the plastic non adjustable decell vacuum switch substituted in late production. The original vacuum switches were not an easy access adjustment requiring one to pull the engine to adjust the switch. Tim

While I was looking up some other information, I reviewed my notes from Service school. I had made notes on pre delivery as I was a new employee and really excited about the RE5. I made a hand drawn note at the positions in the headlamp shell for connectors during set up and although I don't specifically remember now, I showed connector positions and identities as if in a bracket .The bike was a prototype with the reversed colors for accents and a darker red tank. I am pretty sure that bracket was deleted in production. Tim

Well in 1974 it seems Suzuki were using brackets in the headlamp shells for their GT750L/M. I have a gt750L but there is no bracket... its p/n is 36682-31200 so they did exist.
So it would seem that Suzuki already had experience of doing such things. I have never seen one myself. Does keep things more tidy?. At least these brackets had a p/n.
