A while ago I finally managed to take the "proper unit" out of my uk re5m. Its sat there waiting to be checked for compression. I have over time poured 2 stroke oil down the spark plug hole and slowly turned the engine over. Al least it seems to turn over smoothly. Having built all of my Suzuki triple engines and a few of those strange 4 stroke jobbies I have some minor experience of working on engines..... except this rotary one. And I am not daft enough to try either.
So is there still somewhere thats UK based that can compression check this engine. I know where to go to have the cranks on my gt750 built...... but I am back in RE5M world. And its time to find out how good/bad it is.
Thanks Nairb

Compression testing a Rotary engine requires a specific tester and the engine should be warm....Cold testing with 2-stroke oil inside will influence the results in a positive way but that is not reality. Building a RE5 engine requires special tools and skills....if you do not have these, do not try :-) Cheers,

Thanks Nairb It's a bit awkward to test the compression if the proper has been removed from the rest of the engine as it would require the starter motor to spin it up. Where abouts are you located?

Hello Ray, we did meet on the outskirts of Leicester ages ago I was on a yellow GT550J. I had arranged to take the engine up north a while ago but that no longer was an option so I spoke to another re5 place down in London but I cannot find their details. Both wanted just the proper unit which is why it was removed.... So I was just seeing if there was another option or do you know of the place in London?. I think it was a the end of the A1/M
Thanks Nairb

If you fancy trying it out.

Ray. Brian . I have re built several units and mount them into gearbox housing with belt drive and with âActiv 8 or similar to lube the mains and pre mix to spray into tips you can get a good enough compression test before building it back into the bike . I have tested a few units for others and saved spitting some âUn knownâ units bought that werenât in bikes. The original Suzuki builds were run up with full electrical belt driven equipment and oil and coolant also as published in manual.

I recently saw the internals of a RE5 that had been sitting for some time. I am convinced it would have no compression as I spent days and weeks softening the stuck seals to remove and measure them. Most were under the limit to reuse. If I harp on oils, you will know why.
