When I restored my RE5 a few years ago I was torn between paint and powder. In the end I went with powder for a more durable finish. As warning to others, I should have gone with paint as now, on parts of the frame at the front near exhaust and engine mounts, the coating has bubbled and crazed with the heat. Has anyone else with a powder coated frame had this issue? It looks like I'll have to repaint the frame in a year or two.

Ray Strange that your powder is bubbling. I have done 4 bikes with powder and all ok. And I have recently received Guys old bike that was done 5 years ago and covered about 8k miles and still ok. Have you a manifold leak? Will you be at Stafford show? Regards Rog

When I bought my CX500 turbo the previous owner thought it was a great idea to powder coat the exhaust collector box, not a good idea as it bubbled and peeled off after a couple of hundred miles 😊. I'll be at Stafford tomorrow, I'll look you up. Ray
