A friend and I just did some work on an RE5 imported from (probably) the U.S. The new owner put it into a dealership over here so they could get it running. Now there's yer problem. Long story short, the dealership got nowhere (Port Valve ? Which bit is that ?) The carby ended up down here with me and then the bike was shipped to someone I recommended who did the final set up (among other things, the PV was sticky and had remained open at all times). What a lovely bike now it's sorted. The owner has no idea how lucky he is. It even passes the "acid" acceleration test..........2000 rpm in 1st gear and then full throttle acceleration........no hesitation (and it's got an 87.5 PMJ). I'm the first to admit that this is not always the case even in an apparently properly set up carb. Luck was on our side. It's slightly "grumbly" around 2800/3000 rpm but only if you sit there and look for it. Other than that, it's a lovely smooth bike. For those of you who monitor this stuff: A model, Frame # RE5-15612 Engine # RE5-15369. Now living in Queensland, Australia. Look at this compression trace. Around 138, but that's only part of the story. Look at how smooth and even the peaks are. It's reflected in the way this unit performs:

138 psi and even tight peaks . Maybe this is due the the later production number when Suzuki improved there machining tolerances detailed for the “A” model. Seems you’ve had your hands of a nice motor and set it up nicely. Well done . Rog
