I'm about to have my friend that's a painter start painting all 9 of my Suzuki Re5's I'm trying to give him as much info about paint codes he may need and what paints match as close as possible to original colors. I need the correct black color and type of paints like if it's base clear coat. I also need the blue color and the firemist orange colors codes. Also I have a question when the painter does the paint jobs do most people put the gold pinstripes on the black under the clear and also what about the blue tanks with silver big strips and the firemist orange with the black strips. Also what did the factory do about the stripes from the factory . Thanks for any and all info I can give the painter to get the bikes to match as close to perfect as he possible can do. Have a great day everyone. If anyone is interested in buying a re5 please email me at aaronlions@yahoo.com or send meaa phone number and a time of day that is good to call you r I can text you first and then you can can me or I call you. I am not looking to give these bikes away. I hope to help someone that is looking to buy a good running re5 and is an enthusiast about the re5 as I am.

hi From Aus , I dont think you will get any paint no as they didnt use them then and most of the Japanese bikes every bike was a bit different, they used pearl , white base , colour (aussie English ), then clear , and very light aplication , the stripes were almost like electrical tape (on my M orange model) , we tend to over do our painting now to much and clear that dosnt show edges of stripes, I'm no expert on Re5s , but have owned a lot of 70s Jap bikes and they were much the same , there are paint shops with spectrom anilisers that can match paint , I found a 2 pk paint that was for a late model Nissan to repaint my Kawasaki H2 750 1972 Pearl blue , and it is same as one of my original (keep in box ) side cover , so the paint is out there but you need to talk to a paint shop , OR send it to a restoration shop that does original paints . urs Al in Aus

Years ago I got a color photo match of the firemist orange and it was about 7 different chemicals and very expensive but it was very dependent on the degree of heaviness or layers of spray. I have looked for the chart but as of yet haven't uncovered it for you. Another friend matched the blue years ago and has moved and I lost contact.
You might only paint one tank first to evaluate the comparison to original before painting them all.
One last suggestion is see if your dealer will help with the factory supplier of paints. All the best for success.

Thanks for your input. I have a few extra tanks and side covers with factory paint on them. So I alway will have factory color to use as a reference point. My painter says that he can match the colors and metal flake size using today's available paints. I was just trying to get as much info to give him to make his job as easy as posible . Thanks for input and also anyone else who has any input.

I like that they say they are clear coat safe. Many years back I had NOS GT-750 tank stripes and the clear coat just wrinkled them up.

Thanks for the info about the decals. I did buy all my strips and warning stickers from them. Your correct they do a great job matching the decals. The only thing that anyone needing to order from them be prepared for in the US is the shipping time . Geting threw customs has delayed them getting to me for over 3 weeks. Great company it's not there fault for shipping delays. Thanks again everyone for input.

When I painted mine I was lucky enough to have a friend who found some nos paint. The Firemist/Midnight Blue is straight black base, then very coarse metal flake (won't fit through my paint strainer!). This flake coat is sprayed on in a light coat until it "looks" about right! The flake is mixed with clear in the nos paint so it's not too concentrated. Then you add the blue candy layer. Again it's done by eye so you have to do all panels at the same time, same light, same air pressure, same number of coats etc. It looks like it might be cobalt blue candy or similar. Let it mostly dry then seal with 2k clear. Rub down, apply good quality stickers (I cut mine on 3M) the 2k clear over that and you're done. If you're feeling sleepy, you can read my post on it: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/2264/firemist-blue-paint

Any decent paintshop should be able to do it. Good luck and post up pics when done!
