Hi Everyone,
After much more time than I expected and with advice from many on this board, I have completed converting my A model into an M model using the parts from an M I bought off Ebay last Spring.
Most everything that came from the M was usable and worked except for the speedometer. It seems to lag behind the actual speed and indicates about 1/2 of the actual speed. I didn't swap over the M models speedo drive from the front hub. Is it possible the A and M have different ratios?
More about the process and pictures later, but for now I am glad it is together and runs!

Your speedo needs to be cleaned. Simple procedure. Requires you taking the cluster completely apart.
I will bet 50 bucks there is a solidified glob of "grease" (looks like clear mucus) that has settled at the bottom of the speedo bell that is acting as a counterweight. use denatured alcohol on a long Q-tip and clean it off... You speedo will work as well as it did from the factory. (which is not very well).
Best,

Tim Tim, The front wheel speedo. drive gear is changed to be nearly 100% accurate and is compatible to use for the M models. The M models were darn near 9% optimistic. I recently purchased a new and still available drive gear and it is the A model and accurate. Looking forward to your pictures.
