Good Day All
While trying to locate information on my newly acquired 75 RE5M, I came across your very informative forum and decided to join. Looks to me to be the best source for information on this model bike.
Let me fill you in on how I came to be here. I was doing my regular search of Craig's list in my surrounding areas and found a listing in Mohave desert section for 2 RE5M bikes. Called the number over a couple day period and finally made contact with the poster ( a women who wanted to know how soon I could get there and that both bikes were running). Made arrangement to drive the 120 miles to go and purchase said bikes. On arrival found out bikes belonged to her son that purchased them from elderly gentleman in his 80's. Son was now in jail and she needed bail money to get him out. Also there was only one bike, she preceded to tell that she sold the other one a few days ago. ( great!) She then tells me a guy came by and purchased the better one of the two that ran and had a title. She then tells me there is no title to this bike ( previous could not find the paper on this one) and it may not run. Really.... One look at it and yeah! Tank not attached, no battery, key switch broken out, wiring harness cut in a few places, but it did have a California license mounted on the back. Women told me she would get me name and address of previous owner. So with that being said .... I made a deal for a few hundred bucks and loaded it up on to my trail. So as to not have wasted a trip out here I also had found a gentleman with a 82 CB650SC in his garage which he had not used since the 90's so I headed his way. I did end up purchasing that bike also and headed back to Vegas.
So here I sit looking at my to do list so far for this machine, which is long, to see how to proceed and writing this have petty on me story. I want to just see if it will fire off and run before I go to deep into her. I have the CB650 running already, fuel tank is gone, rusted to the point of no-return.
Any input on how to proceed with the Suzuki would be appreciated, this motor is not my forte. I have been reading and collecting information for over a week now and would like to get started on her.
Thank you for your forum and listening to me! Attached a photo when first purchased.
Thanks again: Rich
