Has anyone found a paint that duplicates the textured, matte black used on the instruments on a 1976 RE5 A? I've found two NOS gauges and need to paint the third used gauge to match. Have used flattener in automotive black paint and the gloss is about right, but have yet to find an additive that produces the correct texture--saw dust is too coarse and talc is too fine... The alternative, of course, is to paint all three gauges, but I'd rather not touch the two NOS ones. Any ideas?

Martin, Very interesting. You may be right. Prior to finding the new gauges, I presumed it was simply a matter of rust under the paint of the old gauge I had on hand. That would have caused the rough feel of the paint. With the new gauges having the very same textured feel, my reasoning was proven wrong. The texture is extremely fine and really only noticeable when touched or compared to a smooth painted surface held next to it. I've just located a texture paint for auto bumpers and trim. It is designed to be used as a base coat which is then covered with a color coat. We'll see how well that works. Wm.
