After stripping and rebuilding my carb a couple of times I thought it would only be a matter of time before that plastic part broke so made my own replacement in stainless. This will replace the original plastic part which degrades due to heat and age and will eventually break and leave the secondary side of the carburettor inoperable. The parts are threaded and thread locked together to prevent leaks which are detrimental to the carb performance. Should last longer than the original, and looks nicer. The old part is easily removed with a set of “mole grips” the new part is a tolerance fit into the cap, if you want you could add a bit of thread lock to the parts, not bothered on mine. Will be listing shortly on ebay. 191832981268 eBay number Regards Stuart.

Looks like this would also be a replacment for the union on the top of the proper unit for the coolant vent pipe ...you made me one years ago ..?

I also thought about putting a banjo type seat similar to the radiator filler neck.
