Here is a petcock that will fit and work and is still available. You'll need to file the opening in the tank just a little bit to widen it or remove the screen filter. You'll also need to cap the priming outlet on the tank as this one is integral to the petcock. The part number is 44300-45011.

Thanks for that. GS750 one isn't it. Still vacuum shutoff as well from memory?

How much did you have to notch the outlet under the tank to fit the GS750 unit? Is it possible to go back to stock later?

How much did you have to notch the outlet under the tank to fit the GS750 unit? Is it possible to go back to stock later? It's about a 1/16th of an inch on each side of the oval opening to allow the filter screen pipe to go up into the tank. That won't effect reusing the stock unit in any way.

Final question, then. With the vent line capped off, do you start to build a vacuum in the tank on long rides and limit airflow, or does air seem to work its way in and equalize the pressure? Are you able to run a full tank of gas without having to crack the gas filler cap open?

Are you able to run a full tank of gas without having to crack the gas filler cap open? That's not the vent that is capped. The RE petcock doesn't have an internal prime passage. The cap is on a fuel outlet that is no longer needed as the GT750 petcock has an internal prime passage. The RE has a vented gas cap for venting the tank.

Anyone else try out this petcock? See PIC on first post. Anyone find another replacement? If I cross reference the mounting gasket/seal, I get some more models but (gasp) the prices are out there on complete assemblies. Thanks Tim

My original RE5A petcock always has problems with the vacuum shutoff. (either always leaks into the carb when the engine is not running, or it doesnt flow sufficiently when the engine is running). So I had to leave it in "prime" position and installed a cheap plastic 1/4 turn on/off valve. (And a paper element in-line filter between the petcock and plastic valve)
I'd love to return it back to a properly functioning vacuum petcock without the additional amateurish looking plumbing.
Is the GT750 petcock vacuum shutoff system an improvement on the original RE5 petcock? If so, I'll happily swap mine out. Or is there a proper rebuild process for the RE5 petcock to make it function reliably?
