I'm in the process of painting my blue bike and had never really looked at the panels in much detail until now. The left side panel has always been a bit average with paint cracks and missing bits so when I had a better look at it I could see why. Where the paint had flaked off there was shiny plastic underneath- so never prepped properly. When we went scraping, you can clearly see that on this panel I have: Black plastic Silver metallic coat Spattery red coat (almost the start of an aborted firemist red?) Silver metallic again Black base Silver metallic Blue candy The last three coats are the standard Firemist Blue, but what the heck are the other colours doing underneath? I tried convincing my buddy that my bike was in fact a very rare factory prototype where they were testing different colour schemes- silver for example.... I wondered if it had been repainted at some point... the tank is original paint as is the headlamp bucket and right side cover but that left one is very funky with too many thick coats of paint on it.

Just to show how poorly prepared the panel was, tonight I completely stripped all the paint off in seconds with my pressure washer!
