Hi Guys
Ive started reassembling my transmission but looking at the exploded diagram of the kickstarter I seem to be missing a part off the shaft. On page 23 of the kick start reassembly in the parts book, it is listed as part #8: "washer" (p/n 08211-17282). On inspection of my other two disassembled transmissions I discover that it's missing from both of them as well. What is it for? Some kind of oil deflector? Is it still required or has it been omitted over the production years?

cresco,
It looks like a thrust washer for the kick starter that is still available from Suzuki. It's been a long time since I had the cover off. I don't recall its position right now but looks like it could easily be lost. Hope others may help.

Hi Tim Thanks, Ill get one on order but it struck me as a bit of a coincidence that it was missing from all three of my transmission cases? All three have obviously been apart previously.

A little bit of confusion with part numbers etc but I think this is what's going on. The part that Neil is referring to is not 08211-17282- that's part 9 and just a washer, part "8" is 24833-37990 and is a "Plate, oil level". I had this issue myself some time back (wondering where my missing part was). A very knowledgeable UK member (I'd name him but early onset Alzheimer's and all, I can't remember s**t these days) pointed out that that part is only for very early models. In those models the gearbox casting had an internal hole and that plate shielded the hole. If you don't have the hole pictured below, you don't need that plate. Note it in your parts book for future reference.

With thanks to Wayne the mystery has been solved. The tab washer thing in the lower picture is the part in question, and if you look at the parts manual it has the same number as the plain thrust washer (which I think Tim was referring to?), hence my confusion. Obviously there was a typo in the manual which was never corrected?

Thanks Wayne, I put this illustration in my parts book. You're right Neil, I was looking at the plain washer.
