I'm going to get my carb cleaned and I have sourced a new bowl gasket and accelerator pump diaphragm. I would also like to replace as many other perishable / worn parts while I'm at it. Does anyone know if the needle valve and seat are available anywhere? Are they a common part with other carbs? What other parts are still available that I should be replacing?
If anyone has a carb overhaul kit laying around that they would sell please PM me.
Thanks

See older Posts on this. The Original was a Solex design, licensed to Mikuni. As such, if there is still a carburetor store in your area or if you can use this new Internet I've heard about, you might be able to find some standard Solex replacement diaphagms and gaskets. Audi (NSU) used these carbs as well so you might find some help there as well.

"All that junk isn't worth $25... "They are if you need 'em..."
I never knew that Land Rover used the Solex. My only problem these days is ebay and the tendency to tear down machinery into parts and offer "...this mighty fine 10 millimeter screw taken from a Rolls Royce for a mere $25..." See Green Acres segment above. Soooo, I guess it's OK but there might be others who could blow the dust off of an OEM package and get it to you as well. There used to be this guy named Jess who has a place reserved in the Pantheon of the RE-5 Wonders. I dunno if he has any but he hasn't been seen in these parts recently...If he was available, I'd pay whatever he asked and be assured that you were getting what you needed.

PS: The essence of Capitalism is where both parties are happy in an exchange in the Marketplace. If you're happy with what this guy offers on ebay, go for it. I notice that he is based in Germany and he has a contact listing. E-Mail'im and see if he can help you. Better to get the carburetor working and be on the road than to remember the day years ago when you had a chance to get the parts and you didn't and it's sunny, temps in the low 70s, clear roads and the RE-5 isn't running because the carb is still apart...

So, I ordered one of the above kits and it arrived yesterday. Unfortunately it seems that the RO80 carb does have a different float valve, so that won't work in our carbs. The accelerator pump diaphragm appears to be of the same dimension, as do the manifold gaskets. The float chamber gasket that came with this set is a miserly thin paper offering and I doubt has any use for our carbs given that they seem to require a much thicker rubber membrane? so, all in all it would seem that I am back to square one with my search for carb overhaul parts. Can anyone help? In particular I'm looking for float valve, enrichment valve diaphragm and gaskets and the choke control thingy diaphragm (sorry, it's name escapes me right now). cheers

Hi Neil, There is a gasket manufacturer in the USA that makes parts that can be fitted to the RE5 carburettor I was going to buy a selection as they are cheap as chips untill I found out they have a minimum international shipping fee of $64.00, however they were very helpfull and put me in touch with one of their distributers in the UK who ordered a couple of parts for me, one was the enrichment diaphragm the other the enrichment cap gasket. The company is www.walkerproducts.com/wp-content/catalogs/carburetor/by-model/mukini.pdf and the two parts I bought were 421F Enrichment Body Gasket & 453F which is the same as the Enrichment body diaphragm, you have 2 x accelerator pump diaphragms from the kit off ebay, it may be possible to convert 1 to replace the choke unloader diaphragm ( the word that had escaped you), If you dont have a Walkers distributor in NZ or know anyone in the USA that could buy a set for you get in touch. Regards Stuart

Hi Cresco,
I think I can locate a NOS choke pull off diaphragm and/or a used one. The o-ring mounting seal and the spring clip are the only problems I have encountered there. I have N.O.S. Suzuki needle and seat if needed.
I have a N.O.S. enrichment cap with the vacuum elbow if needed.

Thanks Stuart. I did think about rebuilding the choke unloader using a spare accelerator pump diaphragm, but the latter is slightly bigger although I guess the screw holes could be repunched in a bit?
