I'm soon to get my RE-5 painted. Were the tank stripes originally painted or decals? I did buy the decals from Sam but if originally the tank was painted then I'll do that.

Decals...
Sam has NOS or excellent reproductions...
They are easy stripes to paint. Any painter should be able to do it in their sleep...
Best,
Jess

Thanks guys. I actually bought the decals from Sam some months ago. I've learned to buy what I "think" I will need in the future in order to cut down on the time to get stuff from Sam.

I have asked my painter to put the tank decals on but I have a feeling he won't. So I figured I'd start asking questions, just in case. I haven't put decals on anything since my XB70 model A LONG TIME AGO. I have the decals from Sam. I assume it's the old "put in water" approach. Can the decals me moved around reasonably well to get them in the proper position?
I have a friend who built an airplane (GlasStar). He had decals for the trim. He used some sort of soapy water to get the decals to move nicely. Can we do that? Maybe his decals were of some other sort.
Thanks!

Make some reference marks on the tank with masking tape so you can use these as guides to mirror image the stripes position on each side. You can spray the tank and decals with some diluted window wash solution, doing this will allow you to place and move them around for adjustment to the marks. As usual make sure everything is 100% CLEAN if not you will get dust under the decals.
