Hello Roy,
I used Vehicle & General Polishers and Platers Limited in Arslesey, Bedfordshire. 01462 835847. and they did a surperb job, not a bad price either. The chrome parts took about six weeks because of the polishing required but the cadmium was only a few weeks.
I used a company in Hull who claims to do Quality Chrome Plating but that was not my experience. Some of the parts rusted and they sent both mudguards back to me striped with no explanation so vehicle & General put these right. If you need any blasting done I used Soda Blaster in Knockholt, Kent which Soda blasted my wheels and other parts (for another bike). 01959 532178. All of the paint was removed without any damage to the small intricate cast writting on the spokes. This was done whilst I waited and cheap too. The main advantage of soda blasting is it can be used on anything including oil tanks and just washed out. Any soda left over will not damage the internals and will come out on the next oil change.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards, Joe.

Hello Roy. Its been along time. I have used Bob Cooper Chroming Coventry with some success apart from some RE5 pipes that came back "peppered" and had to be re-done FOC. All parts have been good with weather, time scale on the pipes was for ever but the last parcel I sent him was aprox 6 weeks. I have also had some bad issues with Castle Chrome who over ground/polished off the old chrome and the metal items were about half the thickness when they cams back. I like the sound of the Soda blasting.
Sorry I don't know of any one up your area . BEST Rog

Hi Roy I haven't been on the forum for a while. I've been rebuilding the RE5. I had a lot of chroming done by Marque Restor in Coventry. They did a good job but took about 8 weeks. And they were quite expensive, I had every piece of chrome done (except the exhausts) and it came to £600 !!! I'm getting the exhausts chromed there at the moment, they will cost £300 to do. Marque Restore do a lot of work for the classis car scene, I suppose you get what you pay for. Ray

i have used Peterborough plating quite a bit over the years, did a great job on my benelli exhausts trying to keep the silentium logo on some very rusty pipes, stripped 5 silencer to show me which were best to plate and only charged for the 2 plated. Only down side is timescale they are very busy and parts can take months, pair of silencers and headers came to £300 about 4 years ago so again not cheap but good

I have being talking to a specialist parts company who also make racing BMW exhausts for BMW themselves not the public. I have inroads into the company through the MD and took him a RE5 exhaust pipe yesterday and he said he can replicate it is stainless and then chrome it to look original. He should have a price next week.

Hi Rog. That sounds promising, I'm guessing very expensive :-)

I'd be interested, depending on price of course.
I take it that "replicate" would include the inner pipe ?

The internals. They will re-use or replicate, the hardest thing for them to make is the air intake, I have left them with some scrap/dented pipes for them to strip down. as for cost, I am not expecting to be in total shock because of the equipment they have and there ease of explaining what they were going to do. I also have had pipes re-chromed at £300 and knowing how thin the outer skin is How long will they last? Fingers crossed Mid next week I should know. Rog
