Just purchased a 76 RE5 the is in really good condition, runs good and everything works it as 8700 miles on the clock. I have already talked with Jess at Rotary Recycle quite a lot and ordered some parts from him. Now do I keep it or sell it?

Evening Dan, you need to be a forum member for at least 18 months before we can decide for you.

I really think you should sell it with all the spares at a knockdown price. Maybe a couple of hundred bucks- they are quite rare and unusual so nobody wants them. It's probably completely worn out at 8000 miles as well. If you could send it down to me in Australia for that price it would be great.

My latest project is one that has been sitting in my shop for the last 5 years. I was looking at my log book and realized the last time I worked on it was 2-7-09... I figured it has sat long enough and the gnomes have not made any progress... so I best get back on it myself. I'd like to ride it once before I drop dead... LOL. You want to talk about a whole in the ground to pour $ into... This is it. It is a 97% complete, been sitting for at least 60 years 1925 Harley JD. I pulled it from a barn about 12 miles from my house 5 years ago. Unfortunately, there is not a "JD Harley Recycle" to get parts from. The scrounging on this one will be epic. If only there was a guy stupid enough to keep a bunch of these about to buy parts from... Oh well... I will try to post some pics of my progress as I make headway... Best,

Everyone's a comedian... But... as a point of interest... Phil Irving was looking at the Rotary for the Series E Vincent. Never made it off the drawing board... But how cool would that have been? Best,

Never heard that one before. That would have been WAY ahead of its time. We have a "2 Stroke Extravaganza" event this weekend. I was thinking of taking the RE5 with a sign board "The Other 2 Stroke" with tongue in cheek reasons how this is like a 2 stroke.

Sorry but the rotary Vincent idea was so not "british" at the time but we can dream of what NVT could have done later on with the rotary engine, But then has any one put a RE5 motor in a HD frame ? Idea !!!!!!,Has this ever been done in any frame ?

if I haven't said it before: "Thank you Jess" for the resource of Rotary Recycle
I've owned other bikes that did not have a resource that you offer
you ease much of the pain of ownership to an RE5

if I haven't said it before: you ease much of the pain of ownership to an RE5 The pain of ownership.............wash your mouth out there Bill RE5 ownership.......a challenge perhaps, a lesson in character maybe, a test of will no doubt. All respectable euphemisms. Of course I'll really try to remember that next time I'm tearing my hair out...........

Can't be any worse than working on British cars. I once drove an old Austin 1800 from Melbourne, Australia, to beyond Cairns and then back to Sydney. Just shy of 4,000 miles if you go by the Queensland coast. It was a real apprenticeship in car maintenance. Got awfully close to burning it at one stage. I think I graduated by the end of it.
