I'd like to bid on an NOS engine badge. But is this the real thing as the seller claims ? The real ones are a slightly different colour in the blue green area than the replicas but hard to tell in a photo. I also note that on other Suzuki bikes, genuine engine badges often came with adhesive backing. This one, like the replicas, does not but that doesn't definitively exclude it. A Suzuki bag and part number would be nice. www.ebay.com/itm/221208075940?item=221208075940&viewitem=&vxp=mtrEDIT: the seller gave me a detailed response to my question re this item and tells me that Sam himself sold them to him as NOS items. By the quality of his response, I don't doubt him.

Evening Wayne, Buy a repro from RR at a reasonable price of course, who is going to know that the red and blue are not original, do suzuki know what was the original colour scheme, I have used red and blue nail varnish and had a good result, went to the local bike meet the other day and was greeted with "the last time I saw one of these was in a museum" or if you want an original??? stick a bid on. Regards Stuart

Hi Stuart, I have one RE5 that has only 5000 miles and is completely original or NOS and looks it. Its badges are a little bit faded and I'd like to replace them but it would have to be an NOS badge for this one. Having said that, as you mention, Suzuki themselves were appalling when it came to colour matching etc. You want to pick a label that's not factory but put on by a restorer ? It's too neat and straight ! The factory workers slapped them on. My other bike has replica badges and I've gone down your method as well on other projects but by using small tins of modelling paint to mix up matching colours (such as the bright orange on switch blocks). No one would know. But for the bike that I mention, it has to be genuine. It's a special bike not only for its condition. You'll have to forgive me
