Anyone switched on would be importing one from our Stateside buddies.... but that price is still crazy for the A model, especially in unrestored slightly rough condition. I'd expect a nicely rebuilt one to be 7-10K here tops- there have been a couple around the 12 mark but not sure if they sold or what their condition was.

I know of several imported into Australia which cost between 11 and 13 landed, but they were very nice bikes. Another recently bought will be about 10 landed but it also is a very nice bike (featured on this board not long ago). I know of another that cost around 18 landed. That was an exceptional bike when it left the US but didn't fare well due to some transport negligence. I know of one ground up resto that would be in the region of 17 and of another that would be close. I know of another very clean original bike that was bought for 12 over here.
Having said that, I know of an all but NOS bike that sold for less than 13 and as far as that one for 14, he is dreaming. I believe that gent is known to some of us and I believe he could be getting on in years and out of touch. I think one of our blokes has spoken to him in the past about the price (he's had it on the market for some time).

When mine was registered in about 2000, it was the only one registered in NSW. I owned mine for over 20 years before I saw two parked side by side and I never saw one on the road in that time. Now 8 of my mates have got one and we own more than 12 bikes between the 8 of us over this side of the country (not quite sure just how many Steve P has).

Thanks for the input Wayne- I didn't realize how high the values have got. Wow. I knew they would be valuable but didn't think they had got to that level yet- maybe I should try and find a kettle now before they get out of my reach!

Andy, a friend of mine who has been involved in vintage bikes for over 20 years also holds the position of "valuer" in one of our local clubs.
He keeps his finger on the pulse and tells me GT750 prices are now starting to fall having reached a peak a couple of years back.
This doesn't surprise me, the nostalgia wave is moving on.
As for RE's, there are some ridiculous prices out there and a couple of the ones I quoted were priced too high.
I think that Antique motorcycles in Melbourne have got one with an asking price of $16 K despite it being no better than "nice original for age". I would be reluctant to pay more than about 6 or 7 for something that needed work or restoration.
However, I also think that RE's, unlike GT's or some other bikes are not as subject to the "nostalgia wave" which temporarily elevates prices and then moves on. I think the "wave" for the RE era passed some time ago and didn't take the RE with it. But now people are realising, love them or hate them, there's nothing out there like them. Hopefully values will hold or contionue to climb slowly.

hi guys while were talking aussie history i was talking re5s with a guy recently who knew a guy i used to know in the 80s who had quite a few re5's (he bought 3 off me back then) in SA apparently he got real sick about 10 or so years ago so sold off his entire re5 collection to somebody in the usa apparently there were 12 complete bikes and lots of parts so with them now coming downunder once again they should be renamed the boomerangE5

No! That will flood the market and devalue ours! Not that I'm selling so it would make no difference. So a whole bunch are coming back? How many?

Aaah yes I see! I wouldn't mind bringing another one in- maybe an A model- but then where do you stop? I would like a Kettle tho- and the biggest hurdle for me is how to bypass the financial controller's security measures......

Might be time to start looking at GT's Andy. I spent around 12K doing an open cheque book restoration on my GT M. I have friends with similar quality bikes who were offered around the 12 mark for their bikes several years ago. One even got handed a cheque book and told to "write your own cheque". He refused the sale.
My valuer friend tells me that in that condition, I could probably expect 8-9k these days. I was thinking of selling, but not for that little. Still, prices are unlikely to go up, the wave has passed the GT.
