Hello, just purchased my first RE5 last week and wanted to see if anyone has an extra clear gauge lens for the M model? Mine is totally shot, cracked all the way through . Drop me a line if you can help. Thanks

Are we talking about the hood or the lens? Yes, RR sells the hoods but not sure about the actual lens. From what I've read, you can cut it out and replace it with a piece of perspex/plexiglass/acrylic or whatever suits the best. The original does have a slight curve to it to reduce reflections so you can try and reproduce that as well if you're getting really tricky. Certain perpex/acrylics can be heated over a die in the oven to take a particular shape... for example a plaster of paris mould of your original lens before you destroy it...

The best solution for the old and fogged lens, is to change this with a new made of 1.5mm glass. This solution I have learned from Sam, which had a template to do it. I think thas Jess also must have this now. If you prefer to do it youself, it is quite easy: just mill out the old plastic one, and make a glass that fits into the new shape. This is then glued into the milled lens frame frame with black silicon. This will look very nice, and also be 100% water proof. I have done this on several bikes, and never had a problem again. The new glass will not be curved as the old plastic one. If your instrument needles is pointing a bit upwards they can touch the none curved glass, it can be necesarry to place an additional 1mm rubber gasket between the lens frame and the housing, to get enough sapce for the needles.

Lee Have you or anyone thought about making the cover out of a Scratch resistant Visior,? This would be easier than glass and more scratch resistant than perstex. It would still have to be spaced away from clock fingers with some beading i think these could be milled out alot easier than trying to cut glass. Sorry not me , I have no Miller but used one some years ago , Hence my thoughts. Regards Rog

Hi Rog,
Sorry for the late reply I don't frequent the forum as much as I should any more, moved on and busy with another project.
Yes that's a good idea using a visor sheild, I only used the perspex to see if it was possible.
If I should ever need one I'll try that.
All the best

I'm still looking into this- as soon as I clear the decks and get the time, I'll be making a new instrument lens. I'll be curving mine using a mold made from the original one. When it's done I'll post it up.
