Check out the Ingersoll-Rand wankel at 41 LITRES capacity per rotor. The article says they built a 2 rotor engine, 82 litres that produced a miserly 1100bhp There are some great pics of other wankel applications I'd never heard about www.bargerltd.com/wankel_history.htm

Some of those big natural gas Wankel engines are still running after almost 50 years in power plants. If you like that article you will like this one on the Vintagent website about Rotary motorcycles. Few people know that all the major motorcycle companies built Wankel engine bikes at one time or another - most were just prototypes. I just found a new never run 1965 Sachs KM48 Wankel engine.
