Ok, so there's somebody in Portland, and another in Garden City, ID. and they are obviously parting out complete bikes. OK, so it's a free country.... But the one in ID is asking ABSURD prices, and the other has broken the engine down into individual pieces, including the proper unit. Separating the rotor from the "chamber." That's just dumb. Don't these guys realize that because these bikes are rare it actually means there is LESS demand for some parts? Wouldn't the engine be worth more assembled? I don't know why it's starting to irritate me, but it's not like tearing apart a CB750 you know....

Maybe he has separated the Proper unit to investigate Low compresion issue, that is what I did with one of my bikes, and found out that it was not a servicable unit at all , it's a scrap unit. Maybe he has some oil seals, and tips and rings that could be of some use to me. could you send me a link or MSG. regards Rog

Snowrench you're echoing my thoughts. I've just got off fleabay and am just annoyed at the ridiculous prices these breakers are asking.
Come on, fifty something dollars for, not just the sidestand, but the sidestand bracket . Are you kidding me.
Look at rotorman007, he's selling quality stuff from his wrecked RE5 (once a show winning bike- most of his stuff is on a white sheet background in the fleabay photo). But he's starting with prices as low as $10 and letting the market decide. He's had some big wins, but that's what people were happy to pay. But then again, like Jess, he's an enthusiast, one of us, not these usurious pr@!#$ !!

Yeah, Rotorman has some beautiful parts listed for very reasonable starting prices, and the market has sure come out in his favor. His CHERRY seat sold for nearly $600, and his nice exhaust sold for more! He obvioulsy took good care of that bike before it he wrecked it. Some of the idiots on Fleabay must not look at similiar items already listed before listing theirs. That moron in Garden City is asking astromnomical prices with "buy it now" only, while others have auctions of the same items for a fraction. Oh well, it's his time to waste....

He did take care of it. I had the pleasure of meeting him in the US around 10 years ago and on one occasion spent the day riding his immaculate GT750K, Mach III Kwaka and a short ride on that particular RE5.
I heard that he was hit by a 4 wheel drive that came through an intersection and which then, apparently, ran him over. He was in a bad way and it's taken him years to bring himself to part out the old girl. It's been very difficult for him to say goodbye to what were spectacular restorations and a way of life.

There is something to be said about surrounding yourself with the familiar. Girlfriends/wife might change, kids grow up, parents pass on...the world is full of change. My dad still has a motorcycle that he bought new in 1971 (+60,000 miles) and he takes great pleaser just having it parked in his garage

OK here's another.... A complete 76, in very non-corroded condition, and advertised as having been in running condition has been broken down to it's very last nut and bolt by a "czx436" on Ebay. Maybe I need to worry about more important things, but I'm sick of seeing people part out bikes nicer than the ones I've restored/rescued....

I have been sending these guys FYI notices to let them know that in the future if they part out an RE5 not to dis-assemble the rotor proper unit. Maybe the word will get around.
