Hi Jeff Not a '74, with a frame number like that, 14804 (and also the 'A' clocks) , its quite a late one, '75/76 according to the register. And from the register it looks like it was in a batch sent to the UK (although that number is not in the register)

Was this one on Gumtree? Looks the same. As for numbers- well both my bikes are Oz delivered with frame numbers inbetween Euro and US delivered from memory.

Hi and welcome. Not too bad a foreign import. I was thinking about this bike for a friend.
But on this topic, there really is no such thing as a "74" model.....see post above re the numbers to start with.
Generally speaking, Suzuki delivered new models late in the previous year. My 1977 "B" model GS750 was delivered in Australia in October 1976. It is still a "B" model, not an "A" which is normally associated with 1976.
The RE5, from what I know, was originally slated for October 1974 deliveries but was delayed to January 1975. Even with an October date, they have always been "M" models which is normally associated with 1975.
But the whole "year" designation is misleading. It is simply an M or an A. Don't worry about what year it was, it's not really relevant.
And when you look closely at numerous RE5's, be they M's or A's, you'll find that they are all different in subtle ways. The factory continuoulsy changed specs and probably suppliers. Early M models had, for example, alloy coloured clutch lever brackets, later M models were painted black. Early M's had numerous wiring brackets, later M's simply had wiring clamped to the frame. And then there were the major changes such as big exhaust stingers on early M's to smaller versions on the same model. Or steel lines changed to flexibles- still all "M" models.
It would probably be hard to find 10 bikes of the same model which are exactly the same unless they rolled consecutively off the production line.
If you want to see what RE5's looked like before the M and the A, visit Jess at Rotary Recycle and be surprised. Some kinky stuff in there.
Don't believe what you read on the web about "rare" 1974 models or even the "L" model. No such thing. M's and A's. End of story.

Yeah, that is a fair price. I feel bad now because I never did alert my friend to it as the internet was down where I was staying.
