I've just got back from Stafford Show and bought another RE5 to hopefully use the engine. The proper unit feels good, plenty of compression but isn't running. Fingers crossed that it will be a better proper unit than mine.
Check out those pipes, they've got to be loud !
Engine wise it appears to be all there along with good CDI unit, carb etc. Time will tell if its saveable or for scrap. I'll have to break it down anyway, there is no way I could be seen riding this hideous custom job someone has done to it. It even has a naked lady airbrushed on the tank, tasteful ;D Well, I suppose I'll have to ride it a few miles just to check things out, my apologies to anyone who sees me on it. I'll post more pics when I get the bike home.

I'm trying to work out what various bikes this has been cobbled together from. Anyone have an idea of the origin of front end, wheels and rear mudguard (fender) and seat from this picture? The wheels look familiar, Yamaha perhaps. p.s. this pic was found on web from Stafford show last year. Attachments:

The seat could be any aftermarket sportster "chopper" seat. I'd love to have one like it.
The oil tank looks like an earlier FL model Harley.

Swingarm looks like Sportster too.
Not too sure about that.
The more I look at the frame, it seems to be a modified RE5 frame. Look where the right footpeg bolts on..

Yup, the frame is the original but modified to fit the Harley back end. The calipers & wheels are Honda but I don't know which model.

My first new bike was a 1975 Sportster. The 70 with the tail is what got me interested in Sportsters at the time. In my opinion, the hottest looking one was the 71 in white with the #1 decal on the tank.

I was also going to mention that the oil tank looked like it was from a 1200 Harley. I would really like to hear the bike running as it is. I'm very curious what it would sound like set up like that.

76 sportster. Right side shift, 8 or 10 over forks. XLCH, doing a weld on ring gear and electric starter if it ever gets here. I'll start another thread with a picture. Was this thing built by a member of this board? If so,are they brave enough to own up to creating this monstrosity ;D
According to the register, its frame number 13702 was originally a 1975 Blue bike. The frame number is about 200 lower than my other RE but it is on a 'P' plate where as my other is on an 'N'. The engine no. 13407 is correct for the frame
It has GT750 clocks so could have been an 'A' model or these could have just been sourced from a GT750 to replace the can clocks to make it more fitting with the 'custom' look.
I'd like to find out a bit about its history, if anyone knows anything please let me know.

Hi Ray, as regards the GT750 clocks.....are they pukka RE5A items with the warning lights in the rev counter and a speedo that only reads up to 120mph?
I recognised your bike immediately, it was on offer at the Ashford Bike show (Kent) in April 2011 if memory serves; I had a good look at it and thought someone had gone to a huge amount of effort and expense just to ruin it.
I also thought about buying it for the motor and I think the seller was fairly local, (Oxney in Kent?) but at that time the kickstart was missing so I took a couple of snaps with my phone and chickened out of buying it.
I hope the motor turns out to be a good one and your risk is repaid......keep us updated.
