After piddling around since last summer, I finally got the old girl started tonight.
Ran it off of a syringe of gas, as the tank (perfectly clean) has just had the fuel gauge and petcock reinstalled.
Tomorrow, I warm it up and change all the fluids.
I feel like a little kid! It runs GREAT so far. Starts right up.

Well done mate...........
Be warned, I hate the RE5 radiator flush.......rarely walk away from that one without one or two 3rd degree burns......but then again, they're marks of initiation.

All good deeds do not go unpunished. Blew out the ignition while starting it on the battery charger.

Dying to get it warmed up to start the tweaking.

Took it for a blast around the block yesterday!!!
Need tires. Not Classic looking tires. Real good tires. I want to ride this thing all summer.
Any suggestions on sizes and brands?
It has : Front 4.10V19 Rear 4.10VB18
I'd like to fill the fenders with tire. I'm used to a 200 on the rear of my Harley, and I don't like when skinny front tires grab every crack in the road. Suggestions please.

Metzeler Lasertechs will fill your fenders and being higher profile, will correct some of that speedo error and give you more ground clearance. They came highly recommended by a well known road racer down here who has a lot of experience with older bikes. I use them on my M.
Metzeler Lasertech 100/90-19 M/C 57H and 120/90-18 M/C 65V
Dunlip K81's 3.25 x 19 and 4.25 x 18 work well and look period but may be a bit skinny for your liking. I don't have any problems with them and they've got enough grip to let you lean as far as a stock RE5 will let you.

Hi Al,
Belated congratulations on getting your bike running.
I put a pair of 3.25-19 & 4.00-18 Continental Conti Go Motorcycle Tyres on, the bike handles well, goes where you want it to go and doesn't feel like you have skinny tyres on, my Softail wanders about worse than the RE5.
Regards Stuart

Your Softail wanders?
Mine is a 2010 Fatboy Lo, almost totally flat black.
Just put a set of Michelin Commander II's on. LOVE THEM! The factory tires were crap. Total rubbish.
I'm off to buy tires.... And tubes.

Done. Tires, tubes, dynabeads, some new tire levers.
The only thing I could think of now, would be rear brake shoes.
Got the Lazertechs.
Thanks Guys!

Great to hear, the only thing that's worrying me are the words "tire levers".
Those rims are very soft and easily damaged. I've seen it before.

I bought rim protectors. If the old tires are recalcitrant, I'll take them to get mounted. Or, I'll cut them off. The rear tire on the bike has almost NO air pressure, but is rock solid.
