Evening all, Being a relative newcomer to the Rotary "drug" I have been trying the various sugestions by the forum to smooth the power delivery. Having not ridden a RE5 before I could only go by other peoples experiences of what the power delivery should be like. I have had some success but found that top end speed was limited to 80 mph, the engine felt restricted but would drive in 5th gear at 40mph and pull away strongly till it faded. After trying a number of fixes, replacing jets, altering the timing and getting nowhere I was nearly coming to the conclusion that the compression was down, but the power was there at lower rev range which contradicted my thoughts. Before I gave up and threw a match at it I took the intake horn off , started the engine and gave it a handfull, the secondary choke opened about 1/16" and that was it. 15 mins later the carb was off, found a bent linkage,(dont know how it got bent). After straightening the performance is electric, just need to get rid of the grinding sensation at about 3800rpm. See the pic of the bent arm below Regards Stuart

No idea, just pleased it did not take much to straighten.

It looks like it's been dropped, but so long as it straightened out ok it's probably the best and simplest fix you will ever get for lack of power on an RE5....top marks for finding it.

Excellent and interesting post.
But good luck with that grinding.......don't believe you'll ever get rid of it but would love to hear how if you do succeed.

G'day Stuart, I been thinking a lot about that grinding too. My A model runs great except for that. I have some how minimized it but still there i=under hard acceleration at that rpm range.
