I have a 1974 RE5m UK bike that I have had since 1981. I have been told on a by other RE5 owners that the rear mud guards is wrong, It must have been changed for some season by its 1st owner. It has 2 bolt lugs on either side just behind the shox that don not do anything. I have tried to mount another guard on the bike taken off a US RE5m , It will not fit the the bolt holes under the seat will not fit the captive nut holes by about 5mm. Has anyone seen this type of guard before ? Did they change the mounting holes from 80mm to 75mm Rog

I think it's an A model rear mudguard (fender).
Look in the parts manual and you will see there are two types, the A type has the lugs as shown but no holes for the brace under the seat, these could be drilled though if you were to fit one.
A models were fitted with M rear mudguards, if a NOS one comes up chances are it's for an A as they were rarely used.

Thanks i understand that but why won't the US bike guard fit my bike ? The bolt holes (Pictured ) do not line up. Rog

Could it be that the US guard is from an A model and the lugs have been cut away, common practise? Then maybe someone made an inaccurate job of drilling the holes, look for tell tale signs of cutting and fileing and holes drilled rather than punched at Suzuki.
Can you elongate the holes to fit?

The holes in the US guard have captive nuts and there is no sign if lugs been cut off and chrome looks aged as original. I have tried bending the guard slightly because of the angle the bolts come through the mount under the seat.
