I'm thinking of getting the chrome on my rear light re worked, and I've 2 stupid questions!!!! 1 do I need to get it chrome plated ? Sorry for being a bit dumb but I've seen so many finishes on offer on the web, and have no idea the difference! 2 I can't get the cable loom out of the rear light fitting, and really don't want to cut it, it looks like the wires were dressed in and then the connectors crimped on afterwards, or is it possible to buy new connectors to crimp on Cheers all Mark

Mark, The rear light housing on the RE5 A is chrome plated steel and quite easy to find a good used on or even a NOS one for sale, You may find it cheaper to repace it than re-chrome it. The wires, If you push the rubber grommit with the wires through to the inside of the housing ,( This can be done with a small plunt drift/driver with care not to damage wires or rubber) This will leave the larger hole without the grommit to push the connectors through. I will should be down "Ho!" the end of next week i will bring a light with me. Rog

Hi Mark, which part do you want to chrome, is it the main mounting bracket or the lamp housing of the M model swiss roll lamp?.....the mounting bracket is just standard chrome, but the alloy half of the M rear lamp had a brushed hard chrome finish which by most accounts is not easy to get done and most end up silver painted or returned to bare alloy and lacquered. As to the wiring connections......look here www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/connectors/multiconnectors.phpClick on connectors, then multi connectors, then scroll down to 'Mini Connectors 2.8mm' These just happen to be perfect mimics of the standard Japanese connector blocks....you will see there is a kit that will allow you to do numerous repairs to your wiring harness. They also stock Japanese style bullet connectors with clear plastic shrouds, so you can make up a complete kit to maintain and repair your wiring. You will be able to replace that connector block on your rear lamp with a perfect fitting replacement in a matter of minutes. Just one word of advice...buy a better crimping tool (they do several) than the one offered in the kits...you will use it a lot and the better tool will make a much better job of it. Regards..........Mick.

Thanks both for the info, it's the solid machined toilet roll rear light, it's not in very good shape, I've spent lots of time working it up but it's a bit past it's sell by date ! Very pitted , sound like an email to RR might solve the problem Kind regards Mark

The original finish on the cylindrical M tail light is "Brushed Satin Chrome". I have found a couple of platers here in Australia who will do this finish and you end up with something the same as the original. It's also cheap, about $40 for the taillight. The first one I had done about 10 years ago remains in good shape without the base metal bubbling anymore. Wayne
