On the Orange County California Craigslist there is a Hercules W2000 Wankel motorcycle with only 397 miles on it. It has never been registered until this month. It is in new condition. Asking price is very high at $20K USD.

orangecounty.craigslist.org/mcy/2797428965.htmlInteresting, wonder if it'll go for the asking price? Looks to be in pretty rough condition to have been "APPRAISED AT $40,000 IN TOP CONDITION". It is an oil injected model (one of 199), which is a redeeming quality but I just don't see this bike going for that ($20k). Maybe I'm just spoiled

I agree - I think the 40K appraisal is bunk. I also think the 20K is a bit much - thinking it may bring around 10K to the right person. I see so many bikes come up that are interesting or quoted as "rare" that people think are worth a small fortune. There are several older bikes on Craigslist in my area that have been listed now for over two years that have asking prices about twice what they are worth. They just keep re-listing them over and over.

I'm going to steal a line from a beaut Aussie film (The Castle) and say "tell 'im he's dreamin'."
I'm led to believe the Herc's are an honest beastie, and fairly collectible, but this sort of thing is speculative greed masquerading as the seller 'doing a good deed for the collector community'.
I see it happen all the time with other bikes.
It must get the better of some folk.
It never fails to amaze me as to the ignorance of some sellers of the market they're attempting to sell in.
