I think the general consensus in here is that if you own an RE5, then you ARE the best mechanic in the area....

I'm in Lake Alfred, FL I'm not an active mechanic now, though I teach at MMI. I've got an RE5M I'm starting to restore and have had factory training albeit years ago. (I was a service rep for Am. Suz. from '81-'96) I'll be glad to give advice, help if you need it.

With regard to snow's comment...
Come to my shop and see some of the BAD work done by PFO's and then we can talk discuss your position...
Just my 2 cents...
Best,

Yeah, I was being a little flip.... I was a dealership mechanic for 15 yrs, and I have seen some horrible stuff too. I guess what I was really trying to say was: If you are going to own esoteric vintage bikes, then you had better be a good mechanic..... or able to find a good one and pay him lots....and they are scarce. It's kind of funny, I own CB750's and RE5's, argueably the most and least successful bike designs to come out of Japan. My vintage bike buddies sometimes joke about my CB's, because they used to be so common. But they ALWAYS start and run. So you know what? RE5's are probably not for the mechanically dis-inclined. Find a sweet vintage CB750K and Ride happily ever after! They get plenty of thumbs up! I have to admit though, I love the looks of total amasement the RE5 gets.....

snowrench is right, you should not own an RE5 unless you are willing to work on it yourself or have a lot money to pay someone else to do so (much more then the bike will ever be worth) You can learn a LOT from the likes of Ziggystardust. Be patient, read the forum and believe in yourself. There is nothing that can be screwed up so bad that it can't be fixed later on. An RE5 is NOT the finest motorcycle that was ever built, but it's unique & has it's own attributes just like each & every one of us.

Snow...
I thought you were being flip, and I tried to be flip back...
Unfortunately, the written word does not covey tone and sarcasm...
You are absloutely right... most fellows that have Re5's do a good job servicing them, restoring, and keeping them going.
As for ap... I am worth every penny ;D ( again... being a smart a**)

What I love the most is how people's brains go into a total lock when I answer their questions: How many cylinders does it have? or is it two stroke or four? I love my Re5 for the same reason I loved my first Harley 30 years ago, because not everybody had one.........At least with the RE5 that will always stay true!
