Hi Roger,
Have you checked the static ignition timing is set correctly, is advancing as it should and that the points are not burned too badly? If in doubt check pages 149 and 150 of the service manual.
Another thought - pops and bangs are often due to an air leak in the intake somewhere. Are the rubbers perished/cracked at all?
Cheers Rick

Hi Roger I had this broblem when i was trying to get trid of my hesetation , i did a carb service and adjusted cabels ,checked static timing @10 BTDC and had pop/missfire etc. I set my Static timing to 12 BTDC and it seems to run great. there has been a segestion that I change the main jet. I'm not sure if I will do any damage running it at 12 BTDC. I am open to any segestiong Regards Roger J.

I have not had this yet on my RE5M but I have in other vehicles. It comes sometimes with a leak in the exhaust. The idle is usually rich and if their is a place where air can enter the hot exhaust it can light. Hope this helps.

Re5 Guy had a ride out and had a look and listen to my bike today, his bike sounded allot smoother than mine, I adjusted the air screw that he had done on his to his bike 2.5 turns and then the tick over was alot smoother. on test drive i have lost allot of top end speed/power. any sugestions Regards Roger Thanks Guy will meet up again (Weather permitting) soon.

Hi Rog, Have you done a compression test.Popping can be caused by stuck side seals!!!! Regards Roy.(kick start guy)

Hi Rog, sorry to hear it's giving you a bit of grief.
For what it's worth I think Roy is right, check the basics, compression first then ignition timing and fuel supply......float height etc......is the tap flowing fuel properly, is the vacuum pipe to the fuel tap good (no splits / cracks) etc etc?
If they are good, try putting everything on the carb back to factory settings.
Can you recall the moment the problem arose and whether anything had been touched that may have provoked it?

Thanks all. I Re-fueled the bike and ran it on prime and it went like a rocket, so I think vaccum is susspect. I will start again, as i know it was fine top end untill i messed with it to get rid of hesetation. also Guy said his static timing is at aboout 7.5 BTDC and mine was at 12 BTDC before I altered anything. it is now set at 10 and sounds good and smooth but starved top end. will let you know how i get on regards Rog

I have ordered a new Electronic rotary compression tester to plug into my PC. Looks good and simple with no paper reels to worry about only my PC and or my printer. I will post some detail when i get it. Rog
