Hi all, I have noticed that the kick starter hits the foot peg when used in anger and today got stuck at the bottom of its arc and needed a more-than-gentle shunt to get it back up again. I believe it's the stock lever and peg and the starter is set towards the end of the shaft, but as you can see in the pic below it's rubbed through the paint. Is either of these parts incorrect as far as you can see? Thanks Rick By the way, she started 2nd kick

I can't believe that you can actually kickstart it, most things I have read say the kickstart lever is mostly for compliance with regulations at the time. I just took a look at mine, it should clear the bracket where yours is hitting and smack into that flat bit by the peg rubber. Probably need to file off a little of the paint where the footpeg bracket attaches to the frame- probably due to frame being powder coated. Very nice bike BTW.

You have all the correct parts. The Kick start lever is the same as the GT750 and it can hit. I think you need to mover the kick lever forward one spline and this will help engage the kick starter earlier in the stroke and this may help by not having to kick down that far through the stroke and get stuck.

I can't believe that you can actually kickstart it I must be a bit heavier than average . Only bike I had trouble kick-starting was a late 70s Yam XT500. The RE is no worse than my old H2C which, for a stroker, had amazing compression. I think you need to mover the kick lever forward one spline and this will help engage the kick starter earlier in the stroke and this may help by not having to kick down that far through the stroke and get stuck. Thanks - I tried this but it hits the motor. I'm going to have to strip and rebuild the starter mechanism so I can rotate it 1/2 a spline as it hits my leg when riding and is really annoying as it is.

Yep, I had a look at that thread and in the parts manual and it appears that disassembly and reassembly 1/2 spline to the left (or right) is the only way. What could possibly go wrong!!
