I'm trying to pinpoint a pesky leak from my transmission case.
I'm thinking of filling the transmission with the red coloured Automatic Transmission Fluid just to see if that helps me spot exactly where the leak is coming from.
I don't intend to start the bike or rotate any components.
If I just used it in this manner and then drained it completely, would it have any adverse effects on clutch plates ?

Funny, I was actually going to mention that. It does make pinpointing the leak easier. I don't see there being any adverse effects on the clutch system, I used to use ATF in my A model and am currently using it in the white bike.

Get an ATF that's suitable for a wet clutch, it should say on the side of the bottle.
I have it in mine and it runs fine, with any of the recommended oils, (and i have tried several, it's cost me a fortune putting oil in, trying it, draining the oil out, next oil, etc etc,) and it struggles to turn the starter on a cold morning.

Thanks Didge. The job is done and the ATF revealed the leak.
I drained it all immediately as it was only used to pinpoint my problem. Temperatures here in Australia don't get cold enough to load the starter against the oil so a variety of oils will work in the gearbox.
