For what it's worth, here's something you can do if you have the exhaust extensions. I find the RE5 a tad noisy and this helps. The packing material is Rockwool. It is a basalt based housing insulator which attenuates noise as well as heat transfer. After wrapping the internal "stinger" in rockwool, I partially slide it into the extension and then pack in as much extra insulation as I can using a wooden ruler or similar to stuff it in tight. The flow of exhaust is not at all impeded (the stinger is wrapped pretty tightly in the fibre wadding as you can see anyway). With a db meter in a static test it takes 3 to 4 db off the noise level at 4000 rpm. People I ride with who own rotaries also notice the comparative noise reduction. The extension's internal "stinger" with original fibre wadding being wrapped in rockwool: Partially inserted into extension cone, stuff as much insulation into the gap and pack it firmly: Almost fully packed and ready to have the endcap and circlip installed:

When the core is removed, there are 4 holes in the base of the extension cone that line up with the same holes as the 4 screws that are already in the end of the pipe.
So remove the 4 screws from end of pipe. Remove core from extension and fit extension thus that holes in bottom line up with existing exhaust pipe screw holes. The 4 screws removed earlier are refitted into the cone and back into their orginal holes. Core is reinstalled along with endplate and circlip refitted.

I have two sets of the extensions .one set I purchased from mr.Jess with rotary recycles . He is on this fourm. I also purchased another set from another member on this board but it was his last set. Just wanted to say they do make the bike quieter and I haven't noticed and difference in proformance. They also work well with saddle bags to move the heat past the bags. They look nice with or without saddle bags. Hope this helps you decide about extensions. I think Mr.Jess still has some set to sell. Send him a message on here or email him to see if he can help you .

If I may clarify, I have another set for a future project. Glad you like them and I would like to see them on one of your bikes.

Rog If I may speak from experience, I found it much more comfortable to ride with at least one RE5 with silencers and/or a gearing change for cross country travel. I'm the first one to love the paired up bike exhaust orchestra but without ear plugs, long distance becomes tiring. These look beautiful. Tim
