It has been quite awhile since I have had my RE5 running. It has been at least a couple years+. Today I got the bike out with the intention of removing the spark plug and putting a little oil in the motor and turning it over, as I have done in the past. When I took the spark plug out, it was soaked with oil. Thinking that the motor might be filled up with oil, I didn't try to kick it over, figuring I better ask you guys what's wrong. Any ideas?

I'd try it, push gently on the kickstart with no spark plug in.
Chances are the oil is from the last time you lubed the inside as you were not using it.

Gary,
The Re5 is not like, for example, and old HD. They cannot, as far as I know, "wet sump".
On some bikes (HD) where the oil is kept in a tank, they can gravity feed oil into the crankcase. This is known as "wet sumping" Usually there is a check valve on the engine that is leaking. Old HD's are notorious for this.
There is really no way for this to physically happen in a rotary. I would guess... And it is just a guess... that if your engine was oiling well when it was last ridden, the fuel left in the combustion chamber has evaporated/dissapated leaving behind oil.
Just my two cents...
Best,
Jess

Thanks for the replies. At least now I know it isn't anything serious. My other cycles are all 2 strokes and the bad phrase with them is hydro locking. That was my thought with this situation. I felt it was best to wait and find out what could be wrong for sure than to jump on the kick start and chance making something worse. At least things inside the motor probably have some oil on them. I will go out in the garage my next time off and see what happens. Will let you know the results. Thanks again!!
