Hi,
I have the star treky speedo on my "new" whatever year it is RE-5. The tach seems to work but maybe a bit sluggish. The odometer is working. The speedo does not seem to move much if at all. I get a "I want lubrication" sound every once in a while, maybe more often than not actually. Is there any lubrication that I can do with a speedo internals?
If I lubricate the cable, what is a good lubricant to use? I think I saw WD-40 mentioned but I tend to not like it but if that is what people here recommend then I'll do it. If I had my druthers I'd use sewing machine type oil. Thanks!

Thanks. I'll see if I can find that locally but I suspect the noise is internal to the speedo. If so what are the options??

You can open the Star Trek instrument case to clean and service them but you need to be careful when working in there. As for the lubing of any critical parts once youve got it opened, REFRAIN from the " ill spray WD40 all over it" and blow it out thought. Thats a guaranteed total disaster waiting to happen if you go that route. If you need some guidance on lubing points, once youve opened the case PM me a pic and i'll talk you through it. As for speedo and tach cable lubing, remove it from the bike and flush the cable and housing with WD40 " NOW you can use the WD40" Relube the inner wire with a liberal use of very light grease, this is what the factory uses...

I got me speedo back from Sam a couple of weeks ago but today is the first day I had the bike over 20 MPH or so. I still have the speedo noise. It's not the cable as I can remove it from the speedo side and the noise goes away but the cable is still spinning. Is the speedo easy-ish to lube??? I really hate to take it apart but I guess I have to...
