Has anyone taken a rear shock apart? Does the top screw off of the shaft? I was hoping it did. I was thinking about making an aluminum clamp to go through the springs to hold the shaft enabling me to unscrew the top...
Or, will I have to compress the spring from the top and then clamp down on the shaft?

This may be an easier way for some owners. It's a BMW car jack adapted to compress rear shocks, here it's compressing one of my spare KH400 rear shocks, you just wind it down to compress. No drawings, you just make it from what you have in your garage. You may need to adapt an open ended spanner to fit the nut underneath the top eye.
