Has anyone had experience with paint from KnK Cycle? He shows painting RE5 tanks and bodywork, but in the pictures it shows heavy metal flake. I would like to find out from someone who has used his services what their experience has been.

I have not worked with this company. I have had other painters reproduce the orange with no trouble. I have never had the blue reproduced, but I have asked around and was always told the same thing: if you bring it to someone who knows how to paint (cars or motorcycles) correctly, they can match it and they can apply the stickers (gold on the black tanks, black on orange, and grey on blue) without making mistakes. So, how do you find a person 'who knows how to paint cars and bikes'? Ask around your area - you should not have to go far. However, some painters will charge a lot of money. I once got a quote to paint a tank that I had (it was primed) and he wanted $650 to paint the tank. I had it done by another guy for about $100 and his job was flawless and he applied the decals perfectly. He no longer paints for a living, though. Keep asking around, there is no need to go to a motorcycle specialist - any auto body shop will have painters.

I have a friend who bought repainted GT750 L models tanks and sidecovers in blue metalflake from KNK. He has dozens of bikes and is heavily involved in the restoration scene. He was quite disappointed with the work finding the flake excessively heavy and the application of the paint "wavy". I have seen the work as well and can tell you that I've seen far superior jobs from local painters. To this day, I don't believe he's used the items on a bike.

That is the way I saw the pictures he has posted on the net. I was not sure if the flash made the metalflake look "wrong" or was just heavy. Thanks for the info, will keep searching. Jeff
