I find myself having to turn the throttle more on my RE5 than on any other bike I own - which got me to thinking how I could make it a quicker pull.
I spotted this mod/trick on the GS Resources forum and thought it was an easy and quick way to quicken the throttle.
See attached pic for more detail.
"A cheap alternative to the R1 throttle tube mod no reason to buy new tubes or grips and it can be installed in about 10 minutes.
I just cut a piece of 1" schedule 40 PVC water pipe about 10mm wide and then cut a section out of the ring and it fits right around the throttle tube and is captured inside of the right hand housing. You can glue it as well but not necessary and no worries about it falling out or glue breaking.
To be clear by adding the PVC pipe you are increasing the radius that the cable pulls on. That means you have to turn the throttle tube through a smaller angle (20% less) to pull in the same length of cable. It also makes it a little harder to turn by 20% harder.
Throttle tube goes from 29.6mm dia to 37.5 mm WOT throttle twist drops by 20%. Here is a pic of how much total rotation is required for 0 to WOT on my 81 GS750EX"

P.S.... Welcome to the Forum... ;D Glad you are having fun fettleing... Best, JPS Hi Jess, and hi all... I'm having bucket-loads of fun! Except, it's getting to the stage around here where maintenance is a continuous thing - by the time I've finished the last bike I have to start again on the first one... The RE is on the top of the list however. I received those hoses today, thanks. Payment on it's way. Anyhoo, I tried to load the pics associated with this article, but my work PC (on my work network) doesn't allow uploads . I'll post the two pics when I get some time here at home, or alternately here's the link to the actual article - www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=135697. Cheers Paul
