Tim, I know that Sam worked on your RE5 and saw the thread on the Sundial board about it. How is the bike running now? Have you put many miles on it since you got it back?

Sorry to hear that Tim. Can you ride at all or does your physical problems keep you from doing that? I have found when things are tough (presently), when I ride my cycles those problems are gone at that time. Furthest thing from my mind.
You can't sell the RE5. I'm hoping to arrange a get together with you someday where we can meet half way. I'm figuring about a100 mile ride for each of us. I think it would be sooooooooo cool to get 2 RE5's together at the same time like Tonny did with his friend in Denmark. Would have to be next year now but it would be something to look forward to if we can both swing it.
If I ever get to the point where I have to sell things, the last items that I sell will be my cycles. I think about selling them sometimes but when it comes down to it, I can't.
All the best to you.

Heres a small challenge to you Tim, get yourself all sorted out by next year May and bring the rotary to Deals Gap, and then you will be in the exclusive "rotary company" of Frank and me.

That doesn't look good Tim. Have you had back problems off and on all your life or is this a sudden, first time thing?

First for me, combo of age, genetics and being overweight.

Well, I fixed my oil leak today and went for a 10 mile ride...so I got that going for me now, which is good.

Where was the leak that you fixed before? I hope it can easily be fixed.

Loose metering pump. I'm not sure what the deal is, it might have loosened back up...I'm not even sure there is a gasket behind the pump or not or whether there is another problem or not.
I have a part bike I am bought on my lift now half apart, I need to finish it up and get the RE5 up on it to get a really good look at it...rolling around on the ground doesn't feel too good right now.

Yes there should be a gasket behind the pump.
I had a similar oil leak that I thought was coming from the external pump, it turned out to be coming from the rev counter cable where it joins the engine and running down on the blind side onto the pump.
There should be a little oil seal inside the cable housing that screws to the engine casing, mine had been lost so oil under light pressure found it's way out.
If your pump is loose then yes oil will find it's way out.
Information is a powerful tool.

It was leaking at a cold non-running standstil--a drip about once every 10 seconds. I pulled off the pump cover and tightened the pump and the leak stopped. I know there should be a gasket there but didn't think to check if there was one there when I had the cover off. In my previous post I was wondering "aloud" whether or not a PO had the pump off and didn't replace the gasket.
I then took the bike for a short ride and parked it. Next morning there was a 6"diameter oil puddle under the bike below the pump.. So that is where it sits. Tightening the pump didn't get the job done, so there is another gremlin in there somewhere. When time and situation allows, more investigation is in order.

So from your last post I assume it's clean oil that is dripping to the floor.
Dirty oil would be from within the clutch cover but clean oil would be from your oil tank pipe to oil pump to carburettor.
My guess is it's either the oil pipe connection to the pump leaking or the aluminium gaskets at the banjo fittings.
