well as adviced i pulled the side cover and retimed everything, used a new gsket supplied by the good folks at recyle and refered to the manual they also supplied. so far so good it runs ok and i have been tunig on the port valve timing, man this motor gets hot, hard to work on when u cant touch nothin. the only real problem i am having is the part throttle surging i am getting. tried adjusting the idle mixture screw it helps a little but not much, i set the timing around 5-7 degrees, would afew more degress help? takes a long time to warm up and keep an idle pulls clean up threw the gears strong feels great around 70 but the local constable didnt thin so first ticket on the re5 o yeah

8.5 to 10 usually works best...
They can be a bit cold blooded. Be thankful that you do not have the dreaded "flat spot"... If she is pulling cleanly through the gears she is very close to right.
Not sure what you mean by surging? The low speed mixture screw should be at 3/4 turn from bottom. That is a good starting point.
Best,
Jess

when trying to keep a constant speed it tends to serg, alittle more throttle and it will clean up ,then after a minute it starts to serg again, when i turn the mixture screw out 1/4 turn at a time it gets a little better, i was getting close when popo got me,so i parked it for the day. i checked to see how far the screw was and it ended up almost 3 turns out. reset the timing closer to 8-10 * it seems to idle a little better. will the electrical system handle some driving lights, the stock head light sucks and i do alot of nite riding. the rad crash bar begs for some lights, i have seen sum replacement lens that are facet cut but i dont think they will fit. its dark out there!
