"On the points replacement, I use these which I believe are for one of the Mazda RX models. The pivot hole on the points backplate needs to be enlarged slightly, but I had a spare backplate I used and drilled out. These points work great. The connector to the points also has to be changed to a spade connector.
Also, I managed to get the timing spot on compared to original points that had a worn heel."
An edited (for clarity only) and summarised post by Glenn Reay on FB, may be worth following up:
The two Japanese ignition and electrical component companies that made ALL the ignition point sets, coils, regulators, rectifiers etc for these 70's models for the manufacturers were Nippon-Denso and DAIICHI.
DAIICHI today still exist and continue to manufacturer points sets for GT models. At the dealer level, we all bought this stuff from DAIICHI , not mister Suzuki, he in turn bought them from the same manufacturer put them in his own parts packaging then sold them on for MORE money!
DAIICHI stamp the original Suzuki part numbers on their points boxes. They are ordered by general motorcycle shops using those original Suzuki part numbers both for ignition point sets and condensers. My advice is to check with a local motorcycle parts shop regarding an original DAIICHI ignition point set. If they still make them for GT models it's more than likely they still supply new sets for REs as well.
First find the original Suzuki part number for the ignition point set from an RE5 parts book and then investigate with a DAIICHI ignition parts supplier as to whether they still supply those new, more than a good chance they will.
You are far far better off using the genuine original replacement sets than those made for cars!
