That's a bargain price for that bike. There's one just offered for sale in Coffs Harbour Australia for $18,800. I can guarantee it wouldn't be a patch on this bike. Owned originally by Sam Costanzo, passed to JESS when he took over Rotary Recycle and sold to a friend of mine in Australia. It's featured in a couple of threads on this board where you can read about its extraordinary dyno performance vs other RE5s and about it's impeccable manners on road in another. Steve passed away and the bike went to MICK695 in the UK. Making a showroom RE5 is the easy bit. Getting one so beautifully carburetted and so powerful is the holy grail. An exceptional bike. The first photo in this thread shows an RE5M with "1" jokingly painted on its seat. That's this bike. Read about its extraordinary dyno performance here: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/1242/dyno-day-re5Here's an excerpt from the link below answering questions about five RE5's we had at a rally around 2012. The bike I'm talking about is this bike when it was owned by my friend in AU: "One of the red M models is the most powerful. It has about 5,000 original miles. Jess set this bike up for the owner and he told us that he ranks it in the top 5 that he’s ever ridden for power and behaviour. It is impossible to fault in its power delivery and performance. I tried passing this bike going up a hill on the #2 machine (power) and barely scraped past despite the fact that he was two up compared to my solo and the fact that the owner is a big boy unlike my lightweight self. This bike is also the best handler. A bit mysterious really but it feels very solid in the front end and runs stock everything. He uses Dunlop K81’s but with an unusually wide front tyre".Here's another excerpt from the owner himself (at that time): "Thanks Wayne for the thumbs up on my RE5 at Bathurst. Thanks to Jess, Rotary Recycle for setting up the bike I bought from him 6 months ago it is really a beauty. It's true Wayne was struggling to get past going up a pretty steep hill, him solo and me with the wife on the back. My M really has good power and is very smooth, a pleasure to ride.
Jess has really set the bar for us here in Australia in setting these things up.
Anyone who buys a bike from Jess I recommend that you get him to set it up before you take delivery. It will give you a good starting point.
Steve Thompson"Several pictures of this bike in this thread although it's back around 2012. re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/869/bathurst-australia-vintage-rally
