When I was a kid my dad bought an RE5 new in the crate in 1978(79?). He worked at a dealership and it is the only new bike he ever bought (ever). We had a long sloping driveway so the bike would idle all the way down the hill and it had such a distinctive thumpada thumpada sound that I just fell in love with. Recently I started perusing the You Tube stuff on RE5's and NO ONE had a proper idling RE5 in the bunch. Even Jay Leno's bike had to be revved above the thumpada threshold. If you have it down where it is making that sound I would LOVE to hear it again.

I had that thumpada noise when i drop the idle to around 800 - 900 rpm but my understanding is that its supposed to be at 1500rpm where the yellow lines finish?

Well... Service bulletin #RE9 July 11th 1975 states RPM should be at 1200 rpm and may have a slight "lope" to the idle but will cause no problems. Guess I have to wait until I get one running to see what she sounds like again.
