We now have an engine rebuilding service available here in Australia. Please note the service is available to anyone on the board willing to ship their old unit downunder.
New member GRANT lives in Brisbane and has extensive experience with vintage vehicles not to mention some sterling qualifications. Grant has rebuilt two RE5 proper units to date (Nov 2018) and is willing to provide this as a service. I asked Grant what his qualifications were:
"...….I am a masters qualified engineer. I have restored nearly 50 vintage bikes and have built 2 running rotors (RE5). In fact I have probably built 10 running rotors as I loosely assembled and disassembled my spare rotor at least 8 times to practice using and refining the tools as they are VERY finicky to use and must be exactly radiused and set to work correctly. Internal parts are easily damaged if the tools are not perfect."
Grant can source new seals and O rings etc for known costs but the final cost of rebuild will depend on the general condition of your proper.
Feel free to contact GRANT via PM (private message).

Further information regarding engine rebuilds: If you are DIY, replating of the casings can be done by:
VIS ROTARY 10/19 Graham Hills rd Narellan NSW 2567 02 4647 8763
Speak to Troy, very knowledgeable and has dealt with RE5 tragics before.
The company actually doing the replating is:
LaserBond 2/57 Anderson rd Smeaton Grange NSW 2527 02 4631 4500
However, it would probably be worth going through Troy as his experience with Mazdas would be valuable.
We have at least one board member who has had this done successfully. He tells me "no problems, but of course you do need to run them in. Pretty smoky to start and after 1200 klm the oil consumption is settling down and it's all good".

Hi Wayne do we know what material they are using to coat the housings with? and do you mean the actual rotor housing surface of the side plates? regards Terry

Hi Wayne do we know what material they are using to coat the housings with? and do you mean the actual rotor housing surface of the side plates? regards Terry I believe the side housings are Aluminum alloy and have a surface layer of molybdenum deposited by spraying. I asked one person who was unable to perform the replacement and he said check into aerospace companies.

Hi Terry, this is information from Ross, the man in the Classic Resto TV show that featured an RE5. As far as I know, he had his main chamber and sideplates redone by having them recoated. Andy may have some more information as he was going to contact Ross directly.
If you are interested, I can give you Ross's contact details, he told me he'd be happy to chat or email anyone interested in the details. I'll PM you......
Cheers, Wayne
